About Us Gruppo di lavoro LCOY SFONDO Fin dall'inizio, i giovani sono stati attivamente coinvolti nelle Conferenze delle Parti (COP) organizzate dalla Convenzione quadro delle Nazioni Unite sui cambiamenti climatici (UNFCCC). Nel 2005, si sono riuniti formalmente a Montreal prima della COP11 per far sentire la loro voce, creando così la prima Conference of Youth (COY). Watch Video to Learn More Get Involved LCOY Working Group logo The UN Climate Change Conference of Youth (COY) is an event under the banner of YOUNGO – The Official Youth Constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The conference takes place right before the annual UN Climate Change Conference, also known as Conference of the Parties (COP), in the same host country as the COP. COY serves as a space for capacity building and policy training, in order to prepare young people for their participation at COP. PRINCIPIO The most important role of this working group is to empower and support young people who want to make a difference in their communities. SUPPORT CONSENT All decisions are made by consent. However, responsibilities can be delegated to specific groups that can then act autonomously. Meaningful participation by everyone is only possible if we are transparent about the processes and our decisions. TRANSPARENCY EQUITY We actively welcome each and every young person, no matter what background they have and with what level of experience they join. Both as a group and as its members, we have to experiment, make mistakes, and learn continuously. LEARNING Task-Groups YOUNGO LCOY working Group has 4 task-groups to take up different tasks to support LCOYs throughout the world. If you are interested, you can join any of these task-groups according to your choice and expertise. 1. Applications and Selections This group helps to develop the application process, responds to questions and queries made by applicants on the application process, reviews and evaluates applications received, approves selected conferences and also sends approval letters or official endorsement letter to the organisers. Conference Support This group helps by supporting LCOY teams in their work, creating toolkits & other documents. Communication & Media This group helps by creating and designing content, providing designing services for toolkits & other documents prepared by Conference Support TG, managing LCOY Official Social Media Channels and Website. Current Members Lead: Soumyadip Dewanji (India) Abhishek Mani (India) , Saline Akoth (Kenya). 4. Final Output This group helps by bridging LCOY, RCOY and GCOY, report writing and following up and develops a Final Output process. Local Conference of Youth LCOY is an event under the umbrella of YOUNGO, the official youth constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Its aims are to be a space to boost youth climate action locally and create an input into the international conferences. It represents a national version of the international Conference of Youth (COY), which takes place immediately before the Conference of Parties (COP), the annual UN-Climate Change Conference. Check out the Map of LCOY 2022 How-to Organise LCOY Download Resources Youth @ COY 17 Egypt presents The Global Youth Statement 2022 The Global Youth Statement synthesizes the collective demands of children and youth across the world, represented by YOUNGO, the official children and youth constituency of the UNFCCC, to global leaders to bring about decisive change at COP27. It was formed from a consultation with young people from more than 149 countries and presented at the 17th UN Climate Change Conference of Youth (COY17). ​ It comprises key policy demands across 15 themes, ranging from climate finance and energy to loss and damage and climate justice. Our collected and unified demands are integrated into our agendas, actions and commitments. We call for an inclusive approach to climate governance that acknowledges the disproportionate impact of the climate crisis on our communities and the need for systemic and radical action. ​ From heat waves across Europe to droughts across Africa and massive flooding in Asia, the past year of extreme weather events has served as a(nother) wake-up call for humanity.
